S.W. Capps

S.W. Capps is a master storyteller with an eye for the truth, an ear for the off-beat, and a voice all his own.

Prior to writing novels full-time, he worked as a TV news reporter for the CBS affiliate in Ardmore, Oklahoma, where in 1989, he was nominated for an Oklahoma Broadcasters Award.

In the decade that followed, he put his journalism degree to slightly more lucrative use, writing and directing marketing videos in southern California.

During that time, he often escaped an overwhelming workload to explore the vast and varying landscapes of the western United States. These introspective trips served as a template for the journey of Woodrow Salmon, the troubled main character in his first novel, Salmon Run.

With his latest work, Train in the Distance, Capps weaves a coming-of-age tale set in the cutthroat world of TV news—a tale of good and evil, of career vs. conscience, of survival of the fittest on the most elemental scale. The result is a book that bears the naked truth on every page, exposing the television news business for what it really is—an engine of sensationalism, hyperbole, and lies.

Both novels have received high praise, Salmon Run becoming a book club favorite and Train in the Distance being named a Quarterfinalist in the 2009 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards.

For the past several years, Capps has lived with his wife and kids in the Pacific Northwest, where he is currently working on his next novel.
